Tattered old pages

Door: Gargi Saxena

There lived a girl once upon a land.
Brighter than the sun and grittier than sand.

Her laughter was the sound of tinkling bells,
Her eyes would sparkle with secrets to tell.

Her days were carefree, full of laughter and joy.
And one fateful day, she fell in love with a boy.

Aching with longing, she wept and sighed,
There was no love in his deep brown eyes.

The sun was dull, and the stars shone lighter,
The shadows were dark, and her breath was tighter.

But those with grit like sand can never weep too long,
She gathered the pieces and glued her heart back on.

In a small library, working for meager wages,
She found her lost smile in tattered old pages.

It was only a matter of time that she began to write,
Stories of valiant princesses who rescued injured knights.

She had sought love, and it was love she found,
In eager readers, far and abound.

Her books were sold in lands far and wide,
Life had been hard, but she had finally turned the tide.

There she still lives, weaving stories of sadness and joy,
Wondering what she would be if she had never loved a boy.
